Dan Rather is the most blatantly unbalanced purveyor of liberal hype on the network news. We need your support to help de-fund him and, in the process, send a message to all the media, "If you hear from us, it's in your best interests to pay attention, because we won't give up until you present the news in a fair and balanced fashion." Monitoring the sponsors of CBS Evening News began March 1. In March, Procter and Gamble aired 13 commercials. We gave notice to Procter and Gamble that, effective April 1, we would begin a boycott of their products until they stopped sponsoring Dan Rather. Although P&G did not announce their withdrawal of support, they did reduce their ad buying substantially. During April they aired no commercials, in May just 3 (for a product they co-market with another company). During June, there were just 4 ads, the first three of which were shown on days when Rather was on vacation, or assignment. However, on June 25, the fourth ad, for Crest, aired with Rather hosting. Beginning July 2, Procter and Gamble "returned to the CBS Evening News sponsor fold", and have aired 16 spots during July. Additionally, in June letters were sent to the CEO's of the top 20 sponsors of "The Evening News with Dan Rather." They are on notice that as long as they continue to sponsor Dan Rather, they are subject to joining Procter and Gamble in our boycott. We ask that you redouble your efforts in the boycott of Procter and Gamble. Please continue to write letters/telephone Procter and Gamble: Mr. John E.
