Attacking the Hub

Dan Chavez
05/13/2002

A major problem for those who want to reduce the influence of the leftists and liberal activists on society is to pick a starting point. On every controversial issue folks line up on opposing sides. Single issues occupy the minds of many on the right. This is not a bad thing - the decay of our culture and society would be much further along without their efforts. How many of us realize, however, that if we were able to unify and direct our efforts against the so-called "mainstream" media that our battles could be won all the faster.

If you can compare liberalism, with all of it's organizations, special interest groups and hanger-on politicians to a wheel, imagine the liberal media as the hub. Attack the hub and the whole wheel falls apart.

CCRM as the 'Man of LaMancha' leads the people against media bias The liberal causes that receive publicity and the groups that benefit from the media's advocacy for these causes would not have wide support if these issues were decided by ballot. Innumerable issues have been decided by public pressure from activists and small organizations largely due to the support generated from publicity by the media. Without the free publicity, these groups would quickly run out of steam. Their power would be proportional to their numbers in the electorate.

The mainstream media serves as the most powerful component of the liberal wing of the Democratic Party. This has long been considered a given to many on the right and has been recently brought to the attention of the public by Bernard Goldberg's expose in his book "Bias". His examples of bias are only a very small compilation. His work has helped publicize the issue of media bias and serves as a foundation upon which to build the work of reaching more people and educating them on the history, political ramifications and techniques of media bias - not to mention, how to combat it.

Media bias has been written in the blood of uncounted millions, from Walter Durante's apologetics for Joseph Stalin, through the New York Time's sympathetic portrayal of Castro, on through the wreckage of American lives in the failed social programs of the 60's and beyond. Such a vile and putrid history should serve to motivate us as we work to reduce the power and influence of the media.

Not only by publicizing the wreckage and harm they have done, but by calling to others who are engaged in struggle with the various arms of the liberal Democratic coalition to join us. They are now engaged in fighting with the spokes. I propose we go after the hub, the center.

Bringing down the liberal media sounds like a tall order, yet we have two very effective weapons in our arsenal. First is technology. New sources of information, like the internet, cable and satellite TV are reducing the influence of the major TV networks and their cohorts in the print media as they scramble for an ever-decreasing number of customers. Their viewers and readers are abandoning ship.

Second is the pride and hubris of the liberal media itself. They have never admitted their wrongs in any way, shape or form - probably never will. They have a long way to fall.
