Bringing Iraqi Propaganda
to American TV Viewers

09/23/2002
When reporters go to Baghdad, are they required to leave their brains behind? Judging from a story featured on NBC Nightly News, this seems to be the case. On September 17, Ron Allen shared what he had learned about Iraqi public opinion:

"Many Iraqis believe America's true motive is to remove Saddam Hussein from power, install a puppet government and seize Iraq's vast oil wealth. On the streets, many see Hussein's offer to allow the inspectors back as a wise, brave decision showing strength."
An Iraqi man-on-the-street: "This will stop America's intent to hurt the Iraqi people and our country."

Isn't it wonderful that this gentleman was so willing to share his thoughts with NBC's American viewers even as Saddam Hussein's government censors eavesdropped. Considering the lack of information from and about the outside world within Iraq, it is remarkable that Mr. Man-on-the-street was able to come to such astute conclusions about America's motives! And most astounding of all, his words confirm the worst fears of the leftists in America!

Sarcasm aside, if reporters are required to produce stories that prop up an oppressive and vicious dictator, why have them there are all? This is not news - it is propaganda! And reporters like Ron Allen are providing Saddam Hussein with material assistance. I see no need of it.
