09/22/2003
ABC's World News Tonight anchor continues to put a liberal, anti-Bush spin on the news. Following is how he attempted to twist a news story last Monday night, 09/15/2003, in favor of the evil dictator, Saddam Hussein.
Jennings: "Overseas today, the Secretary of State, Colin Powell, has finished his visit to Iraq. He attended a memorial service for thousands of Iraqi Kurds reportedly killed in 1988 by Saddam Hussein's use of chemical weapons in the north."
He then proceeded into the next story: "The civilian in charge of the hunt for illegal arms, weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, is returning to Washington this week. David Kay is finalizing his report on the search for Saddam Hussein's alleged weapons of mass destruction. The U.S. has not yet presented evidence proving they existed, as we know. Our national security correspondent, Martha Raddatz, tonight has an early look at the Kay report."
Raddatz story went on to undercut Jennings' snide "alleged weapons of mass destruction" commentary. She told that the Kay report will detail how much of Iraq's biological and chemical weapons were destroyed during the 1990s then added this:
"But officials say the Kay report will detail Iraq's efforts to maintain the capability to produce weapons, an effort that one congressional source called 'robust, active and ongoing.' Officials say scientists told the Americans that those who had been working on the programs were kept together, as were the files needed to start up the programs."
"Administration officials caution, Peter, that this is just an interim report, and that the hunt for weapons of mass destruction is not over yet."
I would like to know this: When using the word "alleged" in the above context, who was Jennings trying to cover for - Saddam Hussein or the Democratic Party presidential candidates? Let's ask him. The contact information is below.
